"COMPOSER'S INSTITUTE" BENEFIT CONCERT
MARCH 29TH, 6:00PM
GREENWICH HOUSE MUSIC SCHOOL, 46 BARROW STREET, NEW YORK, NY
Join us for a special benefit concert in support of our Composer's Institute.
Proceeds will help us maintain a scholarship fund for Composers Institute participants, ensuring we remain competitive as one of the top young composer training programs in the country. Your ticket purchase or donation is essential in making our festival as accessible, equitable and inclusive as possible. The Lake George Music Festival has always centered new music in its programming and mission, and the presence of the Composers Institute reinforces, invigorates and enhances this central pillar of the festival.
The performance will feature 3 of our outstanding composer alumni. The Rhythm Method, our resident quartet since the Institute’s founding, will be performing works by Che Buford, Justine Leichtling, and Murphy Severtson - all pieces written for and originally premiered at LGMF!
Ticket prices include the performance, a talk by Institute director Alyssa Weinberg, and testimonials from young artists who have flourished thanks to the program’s mentorship, scholarships, and resources. The event will be fully catered with delicious food and fine wine. Only 70 tickets will be sold, so please don't delay in your purchase!
Reflecting on the first 5 years of the Composers Institute, I am truly blown away by the growth of the program, strength of community we’ve developed, and the groundbreaking new works that have been brought to life. Since our first season in 2020, we have now welcomed a total of 50 young composers from top conservatories around the country - everywhere from Juilliard, Curtis, and Peabody to USC, Northwestern and Michigan - to join our Lake George family and support their journey as emerging and essential voices in our field. Year after year I am blown away by the warmth, openness, curiosity, and generosity of the cohort, and find myself humbled and inspired by the originality and inventiveness of the work being created by these astonishing young composers.
I am thrilled to be able to feature 3 of our outstanding alumni at this event. The Rhythm Method, our resident quartet since the Institute’s founding, will be performing works by Che Buford, Justine Leichtling, and Murphy Severtson - all pieces written for and originally premiered at LGMF!

ABOUT THE INSTITUTE
The Composers Institute at the Lake George Music Festival brings together some of the most promising young composers from across the country for a week of study and creative exchange. Under the mentorship of composer and Director Alyssa Weinberg, students attend seminars, masterclass and private lessons, while being able to participate in the vibrant musical and social life of the Lake George Music Festival.
Each year our composers write new string quartets to be workshopped and premiered by faculty ensemble-in-residence The Rhythm Method, hailed as “fierce, fearless, and virtuosic” and “unapologetically stylistically omnivorous and versatile.” We’ve welcomed some of the most sought after composers in the field to be in residence at the Institute, providing masterclasses and mentorship to our students and sharing their music with the festival community. Recent guests have included David Ludwig, Jessie Montgomery, Juri Seo, and Nina C. Young, and in 2025 we’ll be joined by Amy Beth Kirsten and Donnacha Dennehy.
